Ricky Gervais Banned From Golden Globes, Mission Accomplished

rickygerv590 Ricky Gervais Banned From Golden Globes, Mission Accomplished

Popeater reports that following his performance at Sunday night’s Golden Globe awards, Ricky Gervais will not be asked to host HFPA’s event again — A goal he set after he was asked to return after his first stint as host. Gervais explains a year ago about his debut,

“I don’t think I went far enough… Obviously not, because they invited me back. So, I’m going to do it again, do a proper job. And I guarantee they will not invite me back.”

This year, however, he perfected his routine, went after Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, Hugh Hefner, Mel Gibson, God, Tom Cruise and a few others in what was arguably one of the most entertaining awards shows in years and accomplished his mission.

An anonymous member of HFPA tells Popeater, “Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure… For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.”

So in typical fashion, a group of people hire a raunchy comic to host their event, can’t take his humor, get their feelings hurt and “punish” said comic by not asking him to return… I don’t think Stephen Colbert is going to be hosting any more of George W. Bush’s dinners any time soon, either.

To be fair, you can’t expect a comedian to take an award show seriously, especially one that nominates The Tourist for Best Picture — Comedy or Musical.

Congratulations Ricky, and well done.

Ricky did well… it made the broadcast much more entertaining. Watching celebs get awards for their work is really boring. I would rather see first responders publicly acknowledged in such a way – let’s thank our fire fighters, EMTs and ER docs for their work and quit wasting money on brainless award shows.

    raunchy humor?
he’s an asshole who likes to toss his opinions in peoples faces.
It’s religious intolerance that causes many wars in the world, especially the one the US is going through now, and people like him aren’t helping.

it’s religious people who are the religious intolerant ones, unless the religion happens to be their own.

“For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated.” I love the irony here. No matter how good his movie is, it won’t get nominated? That just proves his point … you can make crap (*cough*Tourist), and it WILL get nominated if they like you.

“For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated.” Really? I guess nominations are not based on the quality of the movie, but who is the finest ass kisser. By the way, Cemetery Junction, Ricky’s last movie was fabulous and definitely worth getting . I didn’t see the tourist, but I bet it would have beat the crap out of it.

Award shows are just a way for the egomaniacal to pat themselves on the back. They think they are royalty that we should all bow down to them and they hate it when anyone pokes fun at them especially one of their own. I applaud Mr. Gervais.

The Information-Age seems to be morphing into The Emperors-New-Clothes-Age.

Hollywood needs to develop a thicker skin. They expect the host to ignore the truth and make “nicey-nicey” jokes. No one can handle the truth..or a joke…anymore. The reaction to this awards show is the same as the larger picture of our government and our freedoms. Everything has to be couched in such kind terminology that no one can have a real discussion anymore without offending someone. Gervais said nothing that was not true, and his insinuations were merely that. Get over it, people.

We the public love you, Ricky. We live in an age where there are so many media outlets – where cinema/theater movies is becoming an archaic form of media transmission that the whole self-congratulatory, overpaid industry need some ass kicking. Ooooh, Ricky Gervais isn’t going to get any awards… boo hoo. You know who else don’t get any awards for doing what they do? Firepeople, moms, medical personnels who save lives on a daily basis. Get over yourself, Hollywood crybabies.

Ricky Gervais is a breath of fresh air in a litany of stale, pretentious, back-patters…filled with false hugs and fake kisses. The ‘stars’ need to be shown in their humanity, and not glorified just because of their looks or ability to obtain large sums of money for playing kids games..play-acting.

I love Ricky!! I usually don’t watch award shows because their boring and the winners are very predictable, but I couldn’t turn off the Golden Globes after his opening monologue!! I love his stand up and his movies, he is truly one of the funniest comics today!! As for his movies not being nominated, then that just proves he made GOOD movies, unlike The Tourist.

They can dish is out, but can’t take it. He wa damn funny.

  • URSODUM

Gervais was the first guy to ever host this show and now they want to replace him with Steve Corrale? It makes sense because Gervais is indian or something and people don’t want that kind of humor durring the bay of pigs.

I hope we found out which celebrities were complaining after the show so that we can make sure to boycott their future movies. I thought the comments by the presenters after they were introduced were funny, at least some of them, and I hope that it was meant to be a good ribbing back and not actually said because they were offended.
