No, African is spelled correctly. I’d say I’m guessing you’re talking about the hyphen between African and American, but there’s two problems with that assumption. The first is that a lot of people do in fact place a hyphen between African American. The second problem is that wouldn’t be a spelling mistake for the word African anyway.
