I don’t know about you guys, but when I was playing dodgeball in my younger years at elementary school you could only get someone out by hitting them below the waist and if you hit someone in the head, you got ejected. This caused problems because it’s much more satisfying to hit someone in the face than in the leg, and so naturally, my id would get the best of me and my team would spend the remainder of the game one man down.

They may not have been the best team in the NL West, but there’s no doubt that the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best pregame handshake in the bigs.

For those not in the know, Rod Barajas has been cradling Dee Gordon (AKA Matt Kemp’s son — see below) before games for several weeks and so far the superstition has worked. Gordon has gotten a hit in every game they’ve done the “shake.”

Baseball is unlike almost every other professional sport in that one player can use the ball as a weapon to intentionally injure another player. You don’t see Kobe throwing basketballs in the face of Labron James and you won’t see Eli Manning launching footballs into the masks of Patriot linemen – it doesn’t have the same effect.

Baseball on the other hand is played by an ethical code unique to the game – a code that says ‘throw at my guy, I throw at your guy’. Usually this means that if a player on one team is hit by a pitch, they will throw at a batter on the other team – usually that team’s best hitter – in order to even the playing field and to make a statement.

Florida Marlin ownership may try to blame it on hurricane Irene (and technically they’re right), but there’s no denying that Floridian baseball fans have absolutely no interest in heading to Sun Life Stadium (which will see even less use after that whole ‘The U’ incident) to spend $12 on a beer while watching the Marlins get pummeled.

According to @790Justin, there was an unofficial headcount of 347 fans in the stands for the first pitch of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Sun Life Stadium. Justin Cohen counted five sections with three or fewer people in it and three completely empty sections. The Marlins haven’t announced the official attendance, but it likely won’t challenge the record of the smallest crowd in modern history (believed to be 653 during a Oakland Athletics game in 1979).

However, Marlin ownership didn’t see it this way (counting tickets sold, not actual attendance), announcing the doubleheader’s official attendance as 22,505 fans.

Hopefully Stanton puts a charge in the fanbase come 2012 or this franchise is going under.

Stationed safely behind the 1st base batting practice net, Colorado Rockies 3rd base coach Rich Dauer didn’t expect he’d be leaving the ballpark early with a broken nose — but that’s what happens when homeboy Chris Nelson decides to turn two into your face.
